Main Steel's origins began over a half-century ago when one of Thomas A. Mallan's inspirations took shape. The company began as a one-line sheet polisher in the Bronx, New York, in 1956. Tom's idea: to assist and supplement the polishing work that local distributors already did. Once the company began to flourish in New York, Tom turned his thoughts to serving additional markets and began Main Steel's expansion in 1973 in Atlanta. This was soon followed by another plant in Chicago. Since then, Main Steel expanded its operations through all of North America and has been recognized as a leading toll processor and polisher of stainless and aluminum.
The acquisition of Main Steel by Shale-Inland in 2011 has brought additional strategies to the company. Now having more processing and fabricating capabilities as a result of the acquisition, Main Steel has also gone the direction of supplying our customers with metal, becoming Your Perfect Supply Chain. Today, we supply North American OEMs and fabricators with stainless, aluminum, and carbon steel products and parts on a JIT basis.
